McConnell on ‘Fox News at Night with Shannon Bream’

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) joined Shannon Bream on Fox News Channel’s ‘Fox News at Night with Shannon Bream’ yesterday to discuss Justice Barrett’s confirmation. See below for highlights or click here to watch the full interview.

On Speaker Pelosi Continuing to Block COVID-19 relief:

“We have been working on coronavirus relief. Unfortunately, the Speaker has not been able to agree to anything remotely reasonable. We can do two things at once and we were trying to do two things at once. What we can do, consistent with the Constitution, consistent with the fact that this is a Republican president and Republican Senate, is confirm the vacancy to the Supreme Court.”

On Confirming Justice Barrett to the Supreme Court:

“The bottom line for the American people is this is a stunningly outstanding nominee. You could not find a better nominee anywhere in the country. Not only that, she's got a compelling personal story. Seven children, two of them adopted, and one of them with special needs.

“A great role model for working women across America. This is a happy night for the country. In particular, for this Senate Republican majority, which has emphasized judicial appointments. We have done 53 circuit judges, one step below the Supreme Court, the first time in 40 years, no vacancies. And over 200 lifetime appointments altogether.

On Democrats’ Continued Threats to Pack the Courts:

“First of all, Justice Ginsburg said last year nine was the right number. They’ve been threatening to pack the court before the Barrett nomination came along. Before Justice Ginsburg passed away. These are long-standing threats. They may have ratcheted it up a little bit lately, but this is not anything new.

“They’ve been promising to blow up the Senate by changing the filibuster rule, admitting two new states, D.C. and Puerto Rico to give them four new Democratic senators, and packing the Supreme Court. They were talking about that earlier in the year. Nothing new, same old threats and intimidation by the hard left in America today.”
