McConnell on ‘Fox News Sunday’ and CBS’ ‘Face the Nation’

‘I think this has been an extraordinarily accomplished congress, in fact the most productive two-year period right of center in the time I’ve been in the Senate.’

LOUISVILLE, KY- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) appeared on ‘Fox News Sunday’ and CBS’ ‘Face the Nation.’ The following are excerpts from the interviews:

On the Senate’s Focus on Confirming Judges This Congress

“I think the most important thing the Senate is involved in is the personnel business. The House is not in the personnel business and of the various 1,200 appointments who come to us for confirmation, obviously the most important are the lifetime appointments to the courts and we prioritize handling President Trump's outstanding nominees for the Supreme Court as well as the circuit courts—we've done 26 so far as you indicated, a record, and there will be more before the end of the year.”

On the Senate’s Accomplishments So Far This Congress

“I think this has been an extraordinarily accomplished congress, in fact the most productive two-year period right of center in the time I’ve been in the Senate.”

“We got the economy booming and we are making long-term systemic changes in the courts that will serve future generations of Americans in a very good way.”

On the Senate’s Ongoing Bipartisan Work This Congress

“It’s also important to underscore that in spite of our big fight over this nomination and over taxes last year, there's been an awful lot of bipartisan cooperation. We passed by overwhelming margins two bills just last week in the middle of the Kavanaugh dispute on opioids and a five-year extension of the FAA and we've also done appropriations better on a bipartisan better than any time since the 1990s. So the notion that the Senate is somehow broken over this is simply inaccurate.”
