‘I join Congress and the American people in warmly welcoming Pope Francis to the Capitol.’

WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell today released a video message welcoming Pope Francis to the U.S. Capitol where His Holiness will address a Joint Meeting of Congress:

“On behalf of the United States Senate, I’d like to welcome His Holiness Pope Francis to the Capitol.

“Simple puffs of white smoke heralded a new beginning for Catholics in Kentucky, across America, and from every corner of the world.

“What an incredible journey to witness. Americans have watched Pope Francis capture the imaginations of many with his unique and engaging style.

“Americans have watched the Pope reach new and different audiences, both from within his flock and far beyond it.

“And now, thousands of Americans from every faith - ‎nearly every walk of life - will gather here, on the Capitol grounds, to listen to him speak.

“I join Congress and the American people in warmly welcoming Pope Francis to the Capitol.”
