Statement on Tragedy in Baton Rouge

“Elaine and I send our hearts out to the law enforcement community, to those wounded today, and to the families of those we lost who now find themselves forced to pick up the pieces from this cowardly ambush. The men and women who serve us in law enforcement span every race, every creed, and every background. They are united by a common calling to protect the innocent and uphold justice, willingly putting their own lives on the line every day so that others may live free to fulfill their own God-given potential. This unjustifiable attack is not just an attack on law enforcement, it is an attack on the very principles of justice and equality that bind us as a nation. There is no question that this has been a difficult time for our nation, but we must use this moment for healing and not more of the hatred we’ve witnessed again today.”
