Obstructionist Democrats Try to Distract and Delay Relief for Americans

Rudderless and Unpopular, Democrats are Divided on Everything - Except Their Willingness to Raise Taxes, Reopen the Border, Weaken the Military, and Hamper Energy Production

DEMOCRATS ARE HOPING THEIR VOTE-A-RAMA ANTICS WILL MAKE VOTERS FORGET ABOUT THE PARTY’S UNPOPULARITY AND INEPTITUDE

  • As a way to needlessly delay consideration of Republicans’ reconciliation bill, Senate Democrats forced the Senate clerks to read the entire bill on the floor. (NOTUS’ Ursula Perano: post on X – 6/28/25)
  • “I will object to Republicans moving forward on their Big, Ugly Bill without reading it on the Senate floor… We will be here all night if that’s what it takes to read it.” – Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)
  • In 2021, Leader Schumer decried this tactic, saying, “It will accomplish little more than a few sore throats for the Senate clerks who work very hard, day in, day out, to help the Senate function.” (Roll Call: Senate in for another long night, and day, on pandemic relief – 3/4/21)
  • Democrats lost in November, with two-thirds of voters rating the economy as “not so good” or “poor.” Out of the voters who viewed the economy negatively, 69% voted for President Trump. (The Washington Post: Voter anger over economy boosts Trump in 2024, baffling Democrats – 11/6/24)
    • 87% of voters in an August 2024 poll said the situation at the southern border was an emergency or a major problem. (Fox News poll – 8/15/24)
    • 83% of voters in October 2024 said the candidates’ positions on terrorism and national security were extremely important or very important to their vote. (Gallup poll – 10/9/24)
  • Democrats remain unpopular and unsupported by the American people – and they know it:
    • Americans identify more with the Republican Party’s views on the economy and taxes than the Democrat Party’s by a seven-point margin. (CNN poll – 6/1/25)
    • 73% of Americans have “little” to no confidence in Democrats’ congressional leaders “to do or to recommend the right thing for the economy.” (Gallup poll – 4/17/25)
    • “Among the American public overall, the Democratic Party’s favorability rating stands at just 29% – a record low in CNN’s polling dating back to 1992.” (CNN poll – 3/26/25)
    • “Leaders across the party acknowledge that they have a brand problem and deep vulnerabilities to address.” (The Washington Post: Democrats want to fight Trump, but they can’t stop fighting each other – 6/17/25)

DEMOCRATS ARE VOTING AGAINST LOWER TAXES FOR FAMILIES AND SMALL BUSINESSES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

“I’ll keep fighting the cuts in this morally bankrupt bill until the end.” – Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.)

  • Senate Republicans’ reconciliation bill permanently extends the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), preventing a $4 trillion tax increase on the American people and a $2.6 trillion tax hike on households earning less than $400,000 per year. (U.S. Senate Committee on Finance: Crapo Highlights Tax Wins for Hardworking Americans and Main Street – 6/28/25; The Wall Street Journal: Editorial: Republicans Reconcile on Taxes – 2/14/25)
  • The bill includes direct tax relief to America’s service workers and hourly wage earners:
    • Tipped wages, “up to $25,000 for qualified tips,” will no longer be taxed, benefiting millions of American service workers. (U.S. Senate Committee on Finance: Crapo Highlights Tax Wins for Hardworking Americans and Main Street – 6/28/25)
    • Overtime wages, “up to $12,500 ($25,000 in the case of a joint return) for qualified overtime compensation,” will no longer be taxed, increasing labor productivity and giving millions of hourly workers more take-home pay. (U.S. Senate Committee on Finance: Crapo Highlights Tax Wins for Hardworking Americans and Main Street – 6/28/25)
  • On top of this historic relief for American taxpayers, the bill also reduces the burden on Main Street businesses, including:
    • Making permanent the “small business deduction, enabling job creation and spurring local economic activity.”
    • “Full expensing for domestic R&D to encourage domestic innovation.”
    • “Full expensing for new capital investments, like machinery and equipment, to boost domestic production.”

DEMOCRATS ARE VOTING FOR A RETURN TO THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION’S BORDER CRISIS THAT RESULTED IN OVER 10 MILLION ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CROSSING THE BORDER

“President Trump is using this so-called ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ to implement his mass deportations agenda.” –Senate Democrat Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.)

  • Under the Biden administration, illegal border crossings hit record levels, totaling 10.5 million migrant encounters along the southwest border, including known gotaways. (U.S. Customs and Border Protection: Southwest Land Border Encounters – accessed 6/28/25; Fox News’ Bill Melugin: post on X – 8/20/24; The Washington Post: Trump vs. Biden on immigration: 12 charts comparing U.S. border security – 7/28/24)
  • Senate Republicans’ reconciliation bill funds President Trump’s successful border policies:

    • “Provides $4.1 billion in funding for a border personnel surge…”
    • “Provides $45 billion for the detention of illegal aliens ICE has taken into custody pending their removal.”

AND DESPITE CLAIMING TO SUPPORT INCREASED SPENDING ON AMERICA’S MILITARY, DEMOCRATS ARE VOTING AGAINST THAT VERY FUNDING

“A return to peace through strength requires a bold downpayment on American hard power… I will continue the conversation I have started about revitalizing our country’s defense industrial base.” – Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.)

  • To rebuild the U.S. defense industrial base, Senate Republicans’ legislation includes:
    • “$29 billion for Shipbuilding and the Maritime Industrial Base.”
