WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement after meeting with Prime Minister Kadhimi of Iraq:
“I was very glad to help welcome Prime Minister Kadhimi to the Capitol yesterday. We discussed the importance to both our countries of maintaining a strong U.S.-Iraq relationship. I am proud of our partnership and joint efforts, particularly in the fight against ISIS, and I am encouraged that the Prime Minister remains steadfastly committed to keeping the pressure on the terrorists.
“America’s national security interests are well served by a stable, secure Iraq that is capable of defending its own sovereignty. I am hopeful the Kadhimi government will continue to advance economic, political, and security reforms that combat corruption, improve its economy, and bring unlawful armed groups to justice.”
